Clyde 1 Stirling Albion 2

As Frankie (Sinatra not Goes to Hollywood) said “…and now the end is near“. Well closer than that actually. The end is here. For season 2012/13 and RedWeb this is the last stand. The venue for this momentous occasion was the world’s coldest football ground, Clyde FC’s Broadwood Stadium. The rest of Scotland could be melting in a record heatwave but this hilltop oasis would still have you searching for the hat and scarf. Once again it was absolutely baltic as Stirling looked to end Clyde’s good home form with a win to secure seventh place in the end of season standings. Defeat could still see the Beanos finish second from bottom. Not something anybody would want on their CV.  Team lines were interesting. The absence of Scott Davidson, Josh Flood and Gary Thom gave a heavy hint to their departures from the club. There were in fact three changes from last [… more]

Annan Athletic 0 Stirling Albion 1

Following defeat to Peterhead the Beanos hopes of a promotion play-off place were all but over. It would take a freakish set of results to keep Stirling in the hunt and it wasn’t something most Albion fans were even entertaining as a possibility. In reality the season was over but the battle for pride to avoid finishing second bottom was still alive. Despite only seeing our play-off hopes dashed last weekend the Beanos could yet finish second from last in the SFL. One of the other teams battling to avoid a ninth placed finish were today’s opponents Annan Athletic. The Galabank outfit have won two in a row and the last time Stirling visited Annan we lost five goals and two players! Today’s Albion team showed five changes from the one which started against Peterhead last week. Jamie Bishop and David McClune were missing due to work commitments and suspension respectively. Stirling Albion 1 Berwick Rangers 0

In their last two matches the Beanos have recorded a record league win and had the better of a draw at Ibrox. Confidence should therefore have been sky high around Forthbank in the build-up to today’s encounter with Berwick. The English side are the only one to inflict defeat on Greig McDonald’s men in their last 10 outings. Even then it took a late, deflected free kick from Lee Currie to deny us a point on a cold night at Shielfield. With matches beginning to run out the Beanos unlikely charge for a promotion play-off spot is still alive. However, anything other than three points this afternoon would be a huge blow to those ambitions. Team lines for the game saw the home side forced into two changes from the goalless stalemate at Ibrox. Ross Forsyth missed out through injury while Jamie Bishop was suspended following quite possibly the first [… more]

Stirling Albion 9 East Stirlingshire 1

A late goal at Berwick on Tuesday night brought to an end the Beanos excellent seven game unbeaten run. Not to worry. This afternoon gave Greig McDonald’s men the chance to start another one as near neighbours East Stirlingshire visited Forthbank. This match signalled the start of the season’s final quarter and would therefore be our fourth and last meeting of the campaign with the Shire. The other three have seen one win for John Coughlin’s team with the remaining two ending in 1-1 draws. The Shire have actually been on a decent run of form themselves and even led 1-0 at Ibrox last weekend until shipping three goals in the second period. Team lines for today saw the same eleven on duty who started against Berwick at Shielfield. On a bitterly cold and windy afternoon at Forthbank the game began with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of [… more]

Elgin City 1 Stirling Albion 2

As regular readers will know this is RedWeb’s last season. One reason is we just don’t have the commitment these days to make seven hour round trips to places like Elgin and Peterhead. Therefore not for the first, and not for last time this season, we are not in attendance and so can only offer a match summary. Team lines for the game were: Stirling Albion: 1. Sam Filler, 2. Jamie McCunnie, 3. Ross Forsyth, 4. David McClune, 5. Brian Allison, 6. Jamie Bishop, 7. Kieran McAnespie, 8. Mark Ferry, 9. Jordan White, 10. Scott Davidson, 11. Phil Johnston – Subs: Gary Thom on for 5, Danny Ashe on for 10, Josh Flood on for 11, Sandy Cunningham (Unused), Jamie Cleland (GK) Elgin City: 1. Joe Malin 2. Graeme Beveridge, 3. Paul McMullan, 4.
