Stirling Albion 1 Elgin City 1

As I wipe away the tears so it begins. My last home match report as “RedWeb”. Next week at Clyde will be our final stand. This is it for Forthbank. On we go. The visitors for this momentous occasion were Ross Jack’s Elgin City. The former Highland League side knew defeat against the Beanos would end their play-off hopes. In fact anything less than a win and results elsewhere would need to go their way for Elgin to take matters to the last day. In short a big game for them. End of season fare for us. That said the oft repeated managerial cry of “playing for contracts” was pulled out of the cliche almanac by Greig McDonald. In all my years I don’t think I can remember a player trying extra hard in these fag end encounters because contracts were on the line. Ho hum. So was the background [… more]

Following defeat to Peterhead the Beanos hopes of a promotion play-off place were all but over. It would take a freakish set of results to keep Stirling in the hunt and it wasn’t something most Albion fans were even entertaining as a possibility. In reality the season was over but the battle for pride to avoid finishing second bottom was still alive. Despite only seeing our play-off hopes dashed last weekend the Beanos could yet finish second from last in the SFL. One of the other teams battling to avoid a ninth placed finish were today’s opponents Annan Athletic. The Galabank outfit have won two in a row and the last time Stirling visited Annan we lost five goals and two players! Today’s Albion team showed five changes from the one which started against Peterhead last week. Jamie Bishop and David McClune were missing due to work commitments and suspension respectively. Elsewhere [… more]

Stirling Albion 3 Montrose 1

Having been idle since the defeat to Clyde on the Broadwood plastic the Beanos were no doubt itching to get back into action. Frustrated by a waterlogged pitch in midweek the weather wasn’t a problem this afternoon as Montrose came calling to Forthbank. On both previous occasions we have played Montrose the Beanos had gone into the matches on the back of wins and were thus seemingly in confident mood. On both occasions we lost. This time we prepared to take on the Gable Endies on the back of nearly a month of inactivity. While we have been idle our visitors managed amongst other results an excellent one each draw at Ibrox against Rangers. A win for Stuart Garden’s men could see them move up to second place. A win for Greig McDonald’s charges could see the Shire pulled within striking distance before the teams meet on Tuesday night. Team [… more]

Stirling Albion 6 Berwick Rangers 3

A break in the recent deep freeze saw the Beanos given the chance to build on their defiant display at Ibrox last weekend. Even though we lost to Rangers we certainly went down fighting and a repeat of that spirit and endeavour today would hopefully see us record a much needed win. The opposition at Forthbank this afternoon were another Rangers, this time of Berwick and not Govan. When the sides met at Shielfield the hosts won 4-1 in a match which had most visiting fans in attendance still professing it was the worst we’ve played all season. Well today gave us the chance to make up for that miserable 90 minutes in Northumberland. Ian Little’s side haven’t been on great form of late with only a couple of successes in their last 8 outings in all competitions. Team lines for Stirling showed two changes from Ibrox. The suspended Daly McSorley [… more]

Following the embarrassing loss to Deveronvale in the Scottish Cup the Beanos were today down in Annan looking to restore some lost pride. Wasn’t so much the fact that we lost to the Vale, it was the meek manner of a defeat in which we barely had a shot at goal which rankled. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth has transpired in the days since the cup debacle but under pressure manager Greig McDonald was once again leading his charges into battle. When the sides met on opening day things looked rosy for the Beanos following a 5-1 win at Forthbank. However, like the 5-1 win at Dumbarton last season it has proven to be a bit of a false dawn. Rangers game apart this team hasn’t really gelled as a unit and currently shows few signs of doing so. However, another week and another game thus our first ever [… more]
