Stenhousemuir 2 Stirling Albion 2

Due to prior engagements and a decision not to travel North next weekend this afternoon’s encounter with Stennie would be my one and only look at the team before I next see them on League Cup duty.  Didn’t originally fancy this match either but as kick off drew closer minds were changed and off we walked to Ochilview. Team line-ups were as follows: Stenhousemuir: 1. Callum Reidford 2.Greg Ross, 3. Sean Dickson, 4. Scot Buist, 5. Ross McMillan, 6. Bryan Hodge, 7. Stewart Keen, 8. Andy Rodgers, 9. John Gemmell, 10. Eric Paton, 11. Brown Ferguson – Subs From: Kevin Kelbie, Ross Brash, Charlie Docherty, Stuart Love (Three used) Stirling Albion: 1. Mark Peat, 2. Ross McGeachie, 3. Danny Ashe, 4. Daly McSorley, 5. Greig McDonald, 6. Brian Allison, 7. Marc McCulloch, 8. Josh Flood, 9. Bradley Coyne, 10. Scott Davidson, 11. Mark Ferry – Subs Used: Gary Thom on for 2, Gary Brass [… more]

Daly McSorley’s late leveller against Forfar on Tuesday night meant the Beanos came into today’s match just a point clear of bottom placed Albion Rovers. The reason Stirling weren’t further ahead of the Coatbridge side was because Paul Martin’s men recorded an excellent single goal win over this afternoon’s hosts, Stenhousemuir. The Ochilview outfit missed a late penalty to earn a point at Cliftonhill and thus came into today’s Stirlingshire derby on a run of eight defeats in eleven matches. However, despite that poor run of form, Norway’s favourite team were still well in the running for a promotion play-off spot. Stirling lost 4-0 on their last trip to play RedWeb’s local team and Greig McDonald would surely have been hoping for and expecting a much better effort. Team lines for the match saw Stirling forced into wholesale defensive alterations. With Shaun Fagan, John Crawley and skipper Brian Allison all [… more]

Without a completed game since the 3rd of December, interim manager Greig McDonald and his charges would have been champing at the bit for the chance to show us the fruits of their labours. After the frustration of Typhoon Gayfield there were no major problems with the weather as local rivals Stennie made the short trip to the Doubletree Dunblane stadium. The Warriors occupied third place in the table pre-match, a full 16 points clear of their hosts. Last time the sides met the comprehensive and at times embarrassing 4-0 loss for Stirling almost certainly set the wheels in motion for Jocky Scott’s departure. Our other encounter at the DDS ended with four goals being shared and the Beanos nearly pinched all three points in the last few seconds. David Iron’s side has some experienced players in it and with the likes of Andy Rodgers and Stewart Kean up front [… more]

Following the defeat at home to Dumbarton the Albion fans were understandably beginning to get a tad concerned. One win in nine and no goals in the last three matches. The football hasn’t exactly been for the purists either so overall a gloomy period for the Stirling faithful. Despite the manager’s insistence that he is here for the long haul and isn’t listening to fan criticism the pressure was surely starting to build. If the results around the division went against the Beanos this afternoon then there was a chance we could be bottom of the heap come full-time. Today’s opponents Stenhousemuir would be confident of adding to Stirling misery although a very much different Albion team has actually won on both of its last visits to Ochilview. That was then and this is very much now. Team lines for this latest Ochilview encounter showed just the one change to [… more]

Stirling Albion 2 Stenhousemuir 2

Move over Scotland, the Beanos are back ! After the frustrating defeat at Arbroath the Albion finally cranked back into action this afternoon after the enforced lay off for the international matches. It wasn’t the worst effort by Jocky Scott’s men up at Gayfield but once again it was self inflicted mistakes which saw us heading home pointless. Today’s visitors were local rivals Stenhousemuir who were seeking their fourth league win in succession. However, the Warriors have a poor recent record against the Beanos and if they did win it would be their first for several years over Stirling. On form they would fancy getting the three points and if Stirling played as poorly as they did in their last home match there would be every chance of a win for the visitors. Jocky Scott’s side just never got going against Albion Rovers and the manager would have been looking [… more]
