Clyde 2 Stirling Albion 1

Last time out the Beanos put up a decent effort against Queen’s Park but the end result was typically familiar, a loss. Getting to the stage where we have to start winning games no matter how ugly the display. Football is about winning not losing less badly than before. To be honest in this scribes opinion some at Forthbank are getting too comfortable with defeat. This attitude needs to change, starting today against fellow strugglers Clyde. When the sides met earlier in the campaign the Cumbernauld outfit edged a scrappy match courtesy of a goal from Kevin Watt. Coming into this afternoon’s encounter the sides were separated by two places and five points, so a win was vital if Stirling were not to start becoming detached at the foot of the SFL. Team lines for the match showed two changes from the defeat to the Spiders. Out went the flu stricken David McClune [… more]

Stirling Albion 2 Queen's Park 3

Quick turn around for the Beanos after Wednesday’s draw at the Shire. In town this afternoon were Gardner Spiers’ Queen’s Park outfit. The Glasgow side stuffed old near neighbours Clyde 4-1 in their New Year derby and would have come to Forthbank full of confidence. Only one defeat in six for the Spiders and even that required a last gasp winner from Rangers at Hampden. Queen’s have also won the two previous matches between the sides this term and were most likely fancied to make it three against the SFL’s bottom side today. Stirling though have shown some signs of life in recent weeks, although without a win in their last two outings. Team lines for this afternoon showed three changes from Ochilview. Out went the suspended Gary Thom and Graham Weir while Daly McSorley dropped to the bench. Into the starting line-up came the fit again Ross McGeachie, midweek [… more]

Montrose 3 Stirling Albion 2

With Christmas over and Hogmanay just around the corner the Beanos took a break from the festivities to tackle Montrose in SFL3 action at Links Park. Been a while since Stirling have played on the Gable Endies plastic pitch with a 5-1 battering in the League Challenge still probably lodged in the minds of the faithful few who witnessed it. When the teams met earlier in the season Stuart Garden’s men won 3-1 at Forthbank in the match following our win over Rangers. As bad as we were on that day Montrose played well and they seemed to have used that result as a springboard. Since then the Angus outfit have been one of the form teams in the division and a win for them today would potentially push them into the top three.  Stirling of course came into today’s encounter on the back of two solid wins and would [… more]

Although it may sound like it RedWeb was not actually in attendance today. Been to Ibrox before and my waning enthusiasm for this 2012/13 version of Stirling Albion meant we couldn’t face a return journey. Nothing against the team and as always we wished them the best but just decided to give it a miss.  Normal match report service will resume with the up coming home games, weather permitting. For those at Ibrox this afternoon they would have heard the following teams announced: Stirling Albion: Mark Peat, David McClune, Kieran McAnespie, Marc McCulloch, Jamie Bishop, Gary Thom, Ross McGeachie, Daly McSorley, Graham Weir, Mark Ferry, Stephen Day. Subs: Josh Flood on for McGeachie, Scott Davidson on for McCulloch, Jordan White on for Thom, Brian Allison (Unused), Sam Filler (GK) Rangers: Neil Alexander, Anestis Agyriou, Chris Hegarty, Lewis McLeod, Lee Wallace, Lee McCulloch, Barry McKay, Kyle Hutton, Kevin Kyle, Dean Shiels, David Templeton.
