Stirling Albion 1 Elgin City 1

As I wipe away the tears so it begins. My last home match report as “RedWeb”. Next week at Clyde will be our final stand. This is it for Forthbank. On we go. The visitors for this momentous occasion were Ross Jack’s Elgin City. The former Highland League side knew defeat against the Beanos would end their play-off hopes. In fact anything less than a win and results elsewhere would need to go their way for Elgin to take matters to the last day. In short a big game for them. End of season fare for us. That said the oft repeated managerial cry of “playing for contracts” was pulled out of the cliche almanac by Greig McDonald. In all my years I don’t think I can remember a player trying extra hard in these fag end encounters because contracts were on the line. Ho hum. So was the background [… more]

Stirling Albion 0 Peterhead 1

Shorter than normal report tonight. Why? Because it was a crap game, I can’t really be arsed writing a report and lastly the Master’s in on TV so let’s get to it! With the Forthbank pitch resembling the colour of a beach the match started with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of the stadium. Peterhead came into the game on red hot form with a trail of wins and clean sheets in their wake. That was irrelevant. Stirling needed to win. However, it was the Blue Toon who enjoyed the better of the opening few minutes. A free kick was only half cleared to Graeme Sharp who pulled a weak shot past Sam Filler’s right hand post. After a sluggish period to start the match the Beanos finally seemed to find some fizz to their play. Kieran McAnespie drilled a free kick into the danger area, Jordan White failed [… more]

Stirling Albion 1 Berwick Rangers 0

In their last two matches the Beanos have recorded a record league win and had the better of a draw at Ibrox. Confidence should therefore have been sky high around Forthbank in the build-up to today’s encounter with Berwick. The English side are the only one to inflict defeat on Greig McDonald’s men in their last 10 outings. Even then it took a late, deflected free kick from Lee Currie to deny us a point on a cold night at Shielfield. With matches beginning to run out the Beanos unlikely charge for a promotion play-off spot is still alive. However, anything other than three points this afternoon would be a huge blow to those ambitions. Team lines for the game saw the home side forced into two changes from the goalless stalemate at Ibrox. Ross Forsyth missed out through injury while Jamie Bishop was suspended following quite possibly the first [… more]

Stirling Albion 9 East Stirlingshire 1

A late goal at Berwick on Tuesday night brought to an end the Beanos excellent seven game unbeaten run. Not to worry. This afternoon gave Greig McDonald’s men the chance to start another one as near neighbours East Stirlingshire visited Forthbank. This match signalled the start of the season’s final quarter and would therefore be our fourth and last meeting of the campaign with the Shire. The other three have seen one win for John Coughlin’s team with the remaining two ending in 1-1 draws. The Shire have actually been on a decent run of form themselves and even led 1-0 at Ibrox last weekend until shipping three goals in the second period. Team lines for today saw the same eleven on duty who started against Berwick at Shielfield. On a bitterly cold and windy afternoon at Forthbank the game began with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of [… more]
