Stirling Albion 9 East Stirlingshire 1

A late goal at Berwick on Tuesday night brought to an end the Beanos excellent seven game unbeaten run. Not to worry. This afternoon gave Greig McDonald’s men the chance to start another one as near neighbours East Stirlingshire visited Forthbank. This match signalled the start of the season’s final quarter and would therefore be our fourth and last meeting of the campaign with the Shire. The other three have seen one win for John Coughlin’s team with the remaining two ending in 1-1 draws. The Shire have actually been on a decent run of form themselves and even led 1-0 at Ibrox last weekend until shipping three goals in the second period. Team lines for today saw the same eleven on duty who started against Berwick at Shielfield. On a bitterly cold and windy afternoon at Forthbank the game began with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of [… more]

First and foremost a Happy New Year to all our readers ! With the pleasantries out of the way it’s back to business. As is traditional in Scotland the first match of a new calendar year tends to be a derby if at all possible. Well it was possible this year and so the Beanos and their fans made the short trek to Stenhousemuir to tackle Ochilview tenants East Stirlingshire. Last time the teams met on the Stennie plastic the Beanos went a man down but a goal up before losing 3-1. Today Greig McDonald’s men had the chance to avenge that result with a win which would lift Stirling off the bottom of the Scottish football league. Despite the loss at Montrose on Saturday the Albion should have come into the match with some degree of confidence following a couple of wins and a battling defeat. Team lines showed [… more]

After two underwhelming displays by the national team it was time for more important matters as the Beanos were back in action. The Shire were regular opponents in the 80’s and 90’s for the Albion but in recent years our paths haven’t crossed as much. That changed today as Greig McDonald’s team made the short trip to Stenhousemuir where John Coughlin’s side ground-share with the Warriors. Despite some excellent displays in various cups the Shire found themselves pointless after four league clashes as Stirling came to town. However, the Beanos aren’t doing a heck of a lot better with just a single success from six competitive outings so far this season. With a week off to prepare the hope amongst the healthy travelling support was for a performance to kick start a better period of form. The team entrusted to produce that up turn in fortunes showed three changes from the loss [… more]
