Stirling’s penultimate away match of the 2011/12 season took the side to Methil as East Fife were the opponents. Of course there could be more away fixtures if we end up in the relegation play-off spot but that’s an issue for another day, maybe. Albion Rovers won at Bayview last weekend and if the Beanos harboured any lingering hopes of finishing outside the bottom two they desperately needed to repeat that trick. However, with East Fife themselves needing the points in a late push for a promotion play-off place it was bound to be a tight and tense encounter for the fans gathered inside Bayview Stadium. Team lines for the visitors showed two changes from the defeat against Cowdenbeath. Out went the injured Callum Reidford and the dropped Scott Davidson. Into the side came Sam Filler and Kevin Kelbie. On an airy afternoon by the Fife coast the match started [… more]

With back to back wins in the league for the first time since the first two games of the season the Beanos were today looking to make it a hatrick of three pointers. Standing in their way were John Robertson and his East Fife squad. The Fifers were many peoples fancy for a serious title tilt but to date it hasn’t really worked out that way. As things stand East Fife came into this afternoon’s encounter only a couple of points ahead of their hosts. A win for the Albion and Greig McDonald would therefore see his team leapfrog his old side in the table. Team lines for the Beanos showed just the one change from Cliftonhill. Out went the suspended John Crawley as the fit again Devon Jacobs returned to the starting line-up. On a breezy, wet day at the DDS the match kicked off with Stirling shooting towards [… more]

For the second time in seven days the Beanos and their band of travelling fans headed to deepest, darkest Fife. Following the extremely disappointing showing against Cowdenbeath it was Methil’s men’s turn to do battle for the honour of Fife against Stirling. John Robertson’s side made a slow start to the campaign as we all saw when they lost on opening day at the DDS. Tipped by many as a title chasing team their struggles continued for a few more weeks. However, the League Cup has seen the Fifer’s in sensational form witnessed by wins over Dunfermline and Aberdeen. With victories in their last couple of league matches, and a big cup tie to look forward to in midweek at Kilmarnock, confidence was bound to be high at Bayview. Stirling on the other hand have only one win in their last seven matches and Jocky Scott’s men would have been [… more]

With the traditional season opening cup ties out of the way it was time to raise the curtain on what it’s really all about, the 2011/12 SFL Division Two campaign. Visitors to the Dunblane Doubletree Stadium this afternoon were John Robertson’s highly fancied East Fife outfit. The team from Methil are second favourites with most pundits for promotion after Brechin City. Following the Albion’s solid win up in Banff it was a disappointing and frustrating afternoon at Airdrie last time out. The hosts were the better team and deserved to win but the sending offs spoiled what otherwise was a reasonably competitive game. Against a strong and well organised East Fife team it looked set to be another tough outing. Starting XI for Stirling showed four changes from the League Cup defeat at the Excelsior. Down to the bench went Lewis Bonar, Gavin Macpherson and John Crawley while Shaun Fagan [… more]
