Stirling Albion 1 Dumbarton 2

Crunch time for the Beanos this afternoon as it was a case of “win or bust” against Dumbarton at the DDS. Failure to beat the promotion contenders would seal a second consecutive relegation for Stirling. Not only that it would rubber stamp two seasons of finishing tenth out of ten. Even a win would still leave work to do but the scene would at least be set for a last day showdown at Cliftonhill against Albion Rovers. However, first things first. Defeat Dumbarton. Not an easy task but the side from the Rock haven’t been in the greatest of form so the chance of a result was definitely there for Greig McDonald’s charges. Team lines showed just the one change from the defeat at Bayview as Kevin Kelbie made way for Scott Davidson. On a sunny but freezing afternoon by the banks of the Forth this vital encounter kicked off [… more]

Dumbarton 4 Stirling Albion 1

Following Tuesday nights battling effort against Cowdenbeath the Beanos were today on their travels as they headed to in form Dumbarton. The team in the shadow of the Rock have been on a great run of late with 19 points from the last 21 available. Confidence was unlikely to be in short supply for the Sons and Greig McDonald’s men would need to produce another committed display if they were to head home with a positive result. Our last visit to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium saw us surprise many, ourselves included, with a free flowing 5-1 win over the hosts. While a repeat was perhaps unlikely Albion belief must surely have been boosted by the point gained in midweek against the league leaders. Team lines for Stirling showed just the one enforced change as skipper Brian Allison missed out through suspension meaning Shaun Dillon returned to the side. On a [… more]

Stirling Albion 0 Dumbarton 1

At the start of the season Stirling surprised most, including themselves, when they won their opening two league fixtures. The second of those was that memorable five goal romp at The Rock which put the Beanos on top of the table. Since those heady days things have been a bit tougher. Indeed only one win in the next eight games has Jocky Scott’s men drifting down towards the wrong end of the table. Two poor showings in Fife may have seen confidence at the DDS eroded further and both fans and players would have been desperate for a positive showing this afternoon. Dumbarton have bounced back from that home humiliation and a win today would see them leap their hosts in the league ladder. Team lines for Stirling showed just the once change from Bayview as Gavin Macpherson failed to even make the 16 with Daly McSorley coming into the [… more]

Dumbarton 1 Stirling Albion 5

Following last weekend’s excellent win over the much fancied East Fife the Beanos second league clash of the season took them down to Dumbarton. The midweek irrelevance at Livingston would have been quickly forgotten by Jocky Scott’s men as they returned to the much more important job of collecting league points. Dumbarton started the competitive season with a narrow win over East Stirling in the Ramsdens since when it’s been three successive defeats. In their league opener the Sons went down by three goals to nil on the plastic paradise that is Airdrie’s Excelsior pitch. Stirling too lost heavily in North Lanarkshire so nothing really for either manager to draw from those matches. With an all new squad to watch the Albion fans are still not sure what to expect from their favourites. However, if they continue to show the effort, endeavour and no little skill as was on display [… more]
