Stirling Albion 0 Cowdenbeath 2

Following the boost of last weekend’s win at Brechin the Beanos were back on home turf this afternoon to face league leaders Cowdenbeath. The Fifers title chase has hit the skids in the last couple of weeks and they would have come to the DDS desperate to get back to winning ways. The spoils were shared the last time the sides met in a match the Beanos could very well have won. With only four games to go and Stirling adrift at the foot of the table it was vital that Greig McDonald’s troops tried their damnedest to get a positive result. No, it wouldn’t be easy but surely the home side would be able to play on fragile Cowdenbeath confidence and frayed nerves.  Team lines for the Beanos showed it was “same again” after the win at Glebe Park. On a chilly April afternoon in Stirling the match kicked [… more]

Stirling Albion 0 Airdrie United 2

The final quarter of the season hasn’t gone quite to plan for the Beanos with only one point gathered from the last three matches. Results elsewhere meant that before kick off today the Albion sat a point adrift at the foot of the table. If Greig McDonald and his charges harboured serious ambitions of avoiding both automatic relegation and the play-offs then it was time to convince the rest of us. This afternoon’s opponents Airdrie came into the match on an excellent run of form and a win could take them into the promotion play-off spots. The sides have met four times this season to date with Airdrie winning three with ease while our only positive result against them came in a 1-1 draw at the Excelsior Stadium. Team lines for Stirling showed three changes from Station Park as Alan Cook, Devon Jacobs and Gary Thom returned to the starting [… more]

Stirling Albion 2 Forfar Athletic 2

Following the excellent wins over Brechin and Albion Rovers the Beanos went into tonight’s match looking to make it a hatrick of three pointers for the first time this season. Team lines showed no changes to the starting XI from the weekend win over Rovers with Stephen Day being replaced on the bench by Darren Smith. On a miserable night for football at the DDS the match kicked off with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of the ground. With a stiff breeze in their faces Stirling struggled to create much in the opening seconds. To be fair Forfar weren’t doing much better with the wind at their backs. Pretty much out of nowhere the home side took the lead with an excellent goal. A superb turn on half-way by Kevin Kelbie saw the former Ballymena striker break up the park before he fed Graham Weir who slipped in [… more]

Stirling Albion 3 Albion Rovers 0

The last two midweeks have seen the Beanos gather a respectable four points against Cowdenbeath and Brechin. In between those matches it was somewhat less impressive fare on offer as the Albion put in a disappointing display at the Rock. With second bottom Albion Rovers in town today the Beanos really needed to back up Tuesday night with another positive display and result. With Forfar also due at the DDS in the coming week this afternoon’s encounter was the start of two crucial matches if Greig McDonald’s troops are to avoid the bottom two places. The previous two clashes between the sides proved to be tight affairs. Back in August the Albion blew a two goal lead to draw but on the day it’s fair to say that Paul Martin’s outfit were more than worthy of a point. At Cliftonhill in January a scrappy game was settled by a Craig [… more]

Stirling Albion 2 Brechin City 3

With just one point from the last five matches and still stuck fast to the bottom of Division Two it was time for the Beanos to deliver an improved performance today. A catalogue of daft goals and missed chances has seen game after game slip away. Brechin City have underwhelmed with their efforts to date and their visit to the DDS surely presented Greig McDonald’s team with a decent chance of a positive result. Due to postponements this was only the second time the sides have met this season with the Albion yet to play at Glebe Park. The first, and only, match between the sides this term saw Stirling win by a single goal in a game which saw City play with ten men for an hour. Team lines for this afternoon’s encounter saw three changes from the defeat at Central Park. In came John Crawley, Scott Davidson and [… more]
