Clyde 1 Stirling Albion 2

As Frankie (Sinatra not Goes to Hollywood) said “…and now the end is near“. Well closer than that actually. The end is here. For season 2012/13 and RedWeb this is the last stand. The venue for this momentous occasion was the world’s coldest football ground, Clyde FC’s Broadwood Stadium. The rest of Scotland could be melting in a record heatwave but this hilltop oasis would still have you searching for the hat and scarf. Once again it was absolutely baltic as Stirling looked to end Clyde’s good home form with a win to secure seventh place in the end of season standings. Defeat could still see the Beanos finish second from bottom. Not something anybody would want on their CV.  Team lines were interesting. The absence of Scott Davidson, Josh Flood and Gary Thom gave a heavy hint to their departures from the club. There were in fact three changes from last [… more]

Following the Beanos win over Annan on Tuesday night they came into this afternoon’s match unbeaten in four outings. The extra incentive for Greig McDonald’s troops to make it back to back wins was the lure of 9th spot in SFL3. To be fair not a target we would have had in mind at the start of the season but after so long propping up the Scottish game it’s a small sign of progress after so many struggles. Today’s visitors Clyde would be the team to replace us in 10th if we could indeed record that much desired win. The chances of that happening seemed good pre-match with Clyde really struggling for form and results. Their last win was against us in early January and last time out they were hammered 3-0 by the Shire at Ochilview. That said Clyde have won both games against us this season so that [… more]

Last time out the Beanos put up a decent effort against Queen’s Park but the end result was typically familiar, a loss. Getting to the stage where we have to start winning games no matter how ugly the display. Football is about winning not losing less badly than before. To be honest in this scribes opinion some at Forthbank are getting too comfortable with defeat. This attitude needs to change, starting today against fellow strugglers Clyde. When the sides met earlier in the campaign the Cumbernauld outfit edged a scrappy match courtesy of a goal from Kevin Watt. Coming into this afternoon’s encounter the sides were separated by two places and five points, so a win was vital if Stirling were not to start becoming detached at the foot of the SFL. Team lines for the match showed two changes from the defeat to the Spiders. Out went the flu stricken David McClune [… more]

Following the poor display up in Elgin the Beanos were back on home soil this afternoon as Clyde visited Forthbank. The visitors have won one and lost one of their opening two league clashes following victory at Montrose and defeat at home to Peterhead. The Cumbernauld based outfit have struggled in recent seasons but under the shrewd guidance of Jim Duffy and Chic Charnley they will be hopeful of better times ahead. For Stirling an improved performance was the order of the day from those accommodated in the home stand. Team lines for the hosts showed four changes from Borough Briggs. Ross McGeachie and Gavin Macpherson dropped to the bench while Jamie Clark and Gary Brass didn’t make the 16. Into the starting XI came the experienced trio of David McClune, Kieran McAnespie and Gary Thom while Steven Weir made his Albion debut. On a dull day, with rain threatening, the match [… more]

Stirling Albion 1 Clyde 0

Following Tuesday night’s win at a chilly Broadwood the Beanos and Clyde met again only four days later at more summery feeling Forthbank. With the Bully Wee relegated to Division 3 after Stirling’s Broadwood success the Cumbernauld men had nothing but pride to play for this afternoon. Neil Watt’s side certainly weren’t the worst team we’d faced and it’s probably fair to say that if the current squad had been in place all season they wouldn’t be heading to Montrose and Annan next term. When the teams met at Forthbank in October it took a last gasp Liam Corr goal to net us a point. Most inside Forthbank expected something equally stressful this time around. As they had done on Tuesday the Beanos got off to a decent start. In similar fashion to midweek it was a Scott Robertson header that saw the Beanos break the deadlock. With news filtering [… more]
