Dalbeattie Star 0 Stirling Albion 5

Stirling supporters were given a day off from their league struggles as we headed to pastures new in the second round of the Scottish Cup. South of Scotland League champions Dalbeattie Star were set to host Greig McDonald’s men in a tie which had banana skin written all over it. The Islecroft stadium outfit have won every competitive match they have played this season and usually with a few goals to spare. The feeling has always been that the South is the weakest of the senior non-league arenas but winning so often would ensure that if nothing else Dalbeattie were a confident team. Stirling would need to be “at it” from the off if the spectre of that horror day in Galashiels was not to rear its ugly head. Team lines showed a change of approach from the Beanos. In short, the team took on a more experienced air. Josh [… more]

With a trek to the wilds of Dalbeattie lying in wait we decided to give this afternoon’s trip down the A1 a miss. Having missed the three goal defeat at Falkirk in the League Challenge, RedWeb was back in full match report action for today’s trip to Gayfield. With the league opener looming against Annan at Forthbank next weekend it was vital for the Beanos to up their game against our old foes from the Angus coast. In their competitive opener Paul Sheerin’s men rattled seven past Elgin in a Borough Briggs twelve goal jamboree. On paper then it seemed unlikely that the game would finish goalless. Team lines for Stirling showed four changes from the match at the Falkirk Stadium. Out went the suspended Sam Filler along with the mysteriously absent Gary Thom, Stephen Day and Daly McSorley. Into the starting XI came new signing keeper David Crawford, youngster Jamie Clark, former Lichtie Kieran McAnespie and Scott Davidson. On a day when the sunshine was steadily replaced by a thick seaside har [… more]
