Greenock Morton 2 Stirling Albion 0

With relegation only now a matter of time the Beanos and a small band of travelling fans headed to darkest Greenock tonight for a rearranged fixture against Allan Moore’s Morton side. Nothing much at stake for either team and in front of Morton’s lowest crowd of the season it wasn’t ever likely to be a classic. As usual for Stirling there were changes from the previous match against Ross County. Some players were dropped while others missed out through injury. In general though it was the same old faces on display that have steered Stirling Albion to the longest winless streak in their history. Team lines from the Cappielow: Greenock Morton: 1. Colin Stewart, 2. Grant Evans, 3. Marc Smyth, 4. Stuart McCaffrey, 5. Carlo Monti, 6. Graeme Holmes, 7. Fouad Bachirou, 8. Michael Tidser, 9. Derek Lyle, 10. Peter Weatherson, 11. Partick Thistle 6 Stirling Albion 1

With the ice and snow gone for the time being the Albion were able to get back into action this afternoon with a trip to Glasgow to face Partick Thistle at Firhill. Torrential rain throughout the morning had many at Firhill fearing the game would be postponed but match referee Steven Finnie gave the match the thumbs up just over an hour before kick-off. Big game for both sides then in their attempts to pull away from the bottom of the table. Stirling in particular would have been desperate for points after suffering six straight defeats in all competitions. In fact the Beanos haven’t won a game since that excellent performance against today’s opponents back in October at Forthbank. Injuries and a lack of matches are not helping the Beanos but it cant be denied that an alarming drop off in form is not making things any easier. Team lines [… more]

Stirling Albion 4 Partick Thistle 2

After the media circus surrounding the match against Dundee it was back into the shadows this afternoon for Stirling as they entertained Partick Thistle in a key bottom of the table clash. The Beanos recent good run of one defeat in five matches began against today’s opponents when a Gordon Smith goal gave Stirling their first league win of the campaign. Since then a win at previously unbeaten Raith Rovers and draws against QOS and Dundee have seen John O’Neill’s men begin to move up the table. Forthbank has been a good hunting ground in seasons gone past for Thistle as home teams tend to struggle in matches between the sides. However, it was time for the Albion to put an end to that trend and record their first home league win of the season. Team lines for the hosts saw two changes from the drawn game against Dundee. Raith Rovers 0 Stirling Albion 2

Stirling faced a tough ask this afternoon as they travelled to the Fife coast to take on a Raith Rovers side unbeaten in the first seven matches of the league season. Impressive displays in cup action as well have certainly made the Starks Park outfit one of the form teams outwith the SPL. The Rovers side hasn’t changed greatly since winning promotion a couple of seasons ago but the two or three players who have been brought in have added greatly to their squad. Many would have written this match off as a straight forward defeat for the Albion but that would have been a tad hasty. The Beanos have enjoyed a fair degree of success in Kirkcaldy in recent times and John O’Neill’s men would have gone into the match boosted by both last weekend’s clean sheet as well as better form of late. That said it would still [… more]
