Stirling Albion 0 Airdrie United 2

The final quarter of the season hasn’t gone quite to plan for the Beanos with only one point gathered from the last three matches. Results elsewhere meant that before kick off today the Albion sat a point adrift at the foot of the table. If Greig McDonald and his charges harboured serious ambitions of avoiding both automatic relegation and the play-offs then it was time to convince the rest of us. This afternoon’s opponents Airdrie came into the match on an excellent run of form and a win could take them into the promotion play-off spots. The sides have met four times this season to date with Airdrie winning three with ease while our only positive result against them came in a 1-1 draw at the Excelsior Stadium. Team lines for Stirling showed three changes from Station Park as Alan Cook, Devon Jacobs and Gary Thom returned to the starting [... more]

Forfar Athletic 4 Stirling Albion 3

With just seven games to go in season 2011/12 the battle to avoid the relegation spots is in full flow. Coming into this weekend’s action the three teams most under the threat of SFL3 were separated by four points. Albion Rovers sat bottom of the pile but the Beanos and today’s opponents Forfar were only a further two and four points respectively ahead of the Coatbridge side. A vital match then was in store for the Albion and their newly confirmed manager Greig McDonald. The Loons have had the upper hand in the three games between the sides to date collecting five points from the nine on offer. In fact if it hadn’t been for two Daly McSorley last minute equalisers the bridie munchers would have won all three games. Team lines for this crunch fixture showed just the one change from the draw against Arbroath as the suspended Gary [... more]

Stirling Albion 1 Arbroath 1

With the memory of the four goal hiding at Ochilview still fresh in Stirling minds the onus was on Greig McDonald and his troops to produce a vastly improved display this afternoon. Title chasing Arbroath were the visitors and if the Beanos were to get a positive result it would the first time in four attempts they’d have taken something from the Smokies. The previous encounter between the sides at the DDS looked set for a goalless draw until defender Stewart Malcolm headed in a last gasp winner. Team lines for today’s match saw the Beanos forced into two changes while opting for a third. Alan Cook and Craig McLeish missed out through injury while Devon Jacobs dropped to the bench. Into the starting XI came the fit again Shaun Fagan and John Crawley while Scott Davidson earned a recall. On a pleasant early spring day in Stirling the match [... more]

Stenhousemuir 4 Stirling Albion 0

Daly McSorley’s late leveller against Forfar on Tuesday night meant the Beanos came into today’s match just a point clear of bottom placed Albion Rovers. The reason Stirling weren’t further ahead of the Coatbridge side was because Paul Martin’s men recorded an excellent single goal win over this afternoon’s hosts, Stenhousemuir. The Ochilview outfit missed a late penalty to earn a point at Cliftonhill and thus came into today’s Stirlingshire derby on a run of eight defeats in eleven matches. However, despite that poor run of form, Norway’s favourite team were still well in the running for a promotion play-off spot. Stirling lost 4-0 on their last trip to play RedWeb’s local team and Greig McDonald would surely have been hoping for and expecting a much better effort. Team lines for the match saw Stirling forced into wholesale defensive alterations. With Shaun Fagan, John Crawley and skipper Brian Allison all [... more]
