RedWeb decided to finish it’s match reporting duties for the season a week early due to the small matter of being relegated. Stirling Albion 1 Dumbarton 2

Crunch time for the Beanos this afternoon as it was a case of “win or bust” against Dumbarton at the DDS. Failure to beat the promotion contenders would seal a second consecutive relegation for Stirling. Not only that it would rubber stamp two seasons of finishing tenth out of ten. Even a win would still leave work to do but the scene would at least be set for a last day showdown at Cliftonhill against Albion Rovers. However, first things first. Defeat Dumbarton. Not an easy task but the side from the Rock haven’t been in the greatest of form so the chance of a result was definitely there for Greig McDonald’s charges. Team lines showed just the one change from the defeat at Bayview as Kevin Kelbie made way for Scott Davidson. On a sunny but freezing afternoon by the banks of the Forth this vital encounter kicked off [… more]

East Fife 1 Stirling Albion 0

Stirling’s penultimate away match of the 2011/12 season took the side to Methil as East Fife were the opponents. Of course there could be more away fixtures if we end up in the relegation play-off spot but that’s an issue for another day, maybe. Albion Rovers won at Bayview last weekend and if the Beanos harboured any lingering hopes of finishing outside the bottom two they desperately needed to repeat that trick. However, with East Fife themselves needing the points in a late push for a promotion play-off place it was bound to be a tight and tense encounter for the fans gathered inside Bayview Stadium. Team lines for the visitors showed two changes from the defeat against Cowdenbeath. Out went the injured Callum Reidford and the dropped Scott Davidson. Into the side came Sam Filler and Kevin Kelbie. On an airy afternoon by the Fife coast the match started [… more]

Stirling Albion 0 Cowdenbeath 2

Following the boost of last weekend’s win at Brechin the Beanos were back on home turf this afternoon to face league leaders Cowdenbeath. The Fifers title chase has hit the skids in the last couple of weeks and they would have come to the DDS desperate to get back to winning ways. The spoils were shared the last time the sides met in a match the Beanos could very well have won. With only four games to go and Stirling adrift at the foot of the table it was vital that Greig McDonald’s troops tried their damnedest to get a positive result. No, it wouldn’t be easy but surely the home side would be able to play on fragile Cowdenbeath confidence and frayed nerves.  Team lines for the Beanos showed it was “same again” after the win at Glebe Park. On a chilly April afternoon in Stirling the match kicked [… more]

Stirling Albion 0 Airdrie United 2

The final quarter of the season hasn’t gone quite to plan for the Beanos with only one point gathered from the last three matches. Results elsewhere meant that before kick off today the Albion sat a point adrift at the foot of the table. If Greig McDonald and his charges harboured serious ambitions of avoiding both automatic relegation and the play-offs then it was time to convince the rest of us. This afternoon’s opponents Airdrie came into the match on an excellent run of form and a win could take them into the promotion play-off spots. The sides have met four times this season to date with Airdrie winning three with ease while our only positive result against them came in a 1-1 draw at the Excelsior Stadium. Team lines for Stirling showed three changes from Station Park as Alan Cook, Devon Jacobs and Gary Thom returned to the starting [… more]
