Easter weekend brought with it the last derby match of the season as the Beanos played hosts to Falkirk. The Bairns still have an outside chance of promotion but need a few favours as well as nine points from their remaining matches. Stirling on the other hand have been down for a couple of weeks and if nothing else are trying to get some pride back from what’s been a train wreck of a Division One campaign. The Albion actually did defeat their local rivals this season but that penalty kick success in the Alba Challenge has been followed by three easy league wins for Falkirk. Team lines for today’s game saw the Beanos only make the one change from last weekend as injured skipper Ross Forsyth was replaced by Michael Doyle. On the Stirling bench there was a first appearance in the 16 for youth team striker Gary Brass. [... more]
Stirling Albion 1 Falkirk 2
Stirling Albion 1 Raith Rovers 2
With Stirling already consigned to Division Two for next season there was nothing but pride on the line today for the Beanos. However, visitors Raith Rovers are still very much in the thick of the promotion battle. In fact if the Kirkcaldy side win out they will be champions as they face table topping local rivals Dunfermline at East End Park next weekend. That potential title decider between the Fife sides would only be so if Rovers took care of business this afternoon at the DDS. On paper it looked set to be a routine victory for Raith but with the pressure off an already relegated Stirling side you couldn’t be sure what sort of performance Jocky Scott’s men would bring to the table. A decent point at Dens Park last time out possibly pointed to a slight up turn in form but all a bit too little too late. [... more]
Dundee 1 Stirling Albion 1
Annoying fixture this weekend all round for the Beanos. Not only having to play on a Sunday, but to make matters worse, a trip to RedWeb’s least favourite venue, Dens Park. Despite a 25 point deduction for going into administration, Dundee have managed to drag themselves clear of the bottom two. We could go on all week about the merits of the Dundee punishment but we’ve been there and done that. Suffice to say most still think they got off lightly. However, the truth is they have responded well to the points deduction and have actually won as many games as table topping Dunfermline. In fact if they got their 25 points back they would be leading the race towards the SPL. Simple objective for Stirling in this one. Win or become the first team in Scotland to be relegated this season. The Beanos have a desperate record at Dens [... more]
Greenock Morton 2 Stirling Albion 0
With relegation only now a matter of time the Beanos and a small band of travelling fans headed to darkest Greenock tonight for a rearranged fixture against Allan Moore’s Morton side. Nothing much at stake for either team and in front of Morton’s lowest crowd of the season it wasn’t ever likely to be a classic. As usual for Stirling there were changes from the previous match against Ross County. Some players were dropped while others missed out through injury. In general though it was the same old faces on display that have steered Stirling Albion to the longest winless streak in their history. Team lines from the Cappielow: Greenock Morton: 1. Colin Stewart, 2. Grant Evans, 3. Marc Smyth, 4. Stuart McCaffrey, 5. Carlo Monti, 6. Graeme Holmes, 7. Fouad Bachirou, 8. Michael Tidser, 9. Derek Lyle, 10. Peter Weatherson, 11. David O’Brien – Subs: Brian Graham (on for [... more]
