Stirling Albion 2 Cliftonville 3

Stirling played their third and final public pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon as Northern Ireland outfit Cliftonville visited the DDS. The match was officially the Ladbrokes Cup, a one off game between two of the nations fan owned teams. Cliftonville defeated FC United of Manchester last year so came to Scotland as holders. That said the game was still expected to be the usual pre-season fare with the managers looking to give trialists a go and signed players another fitness boost. As it turned out the 90 minutes that followed was perhaps one of the more competitive friendlies this scribe has seen in many a year. For whatever reason none of the players were listed as trialists on the team sheet even though it’s obvious that several were not signed players. The ones who I think were still trialists are marked as such: Stirling Albion: 1. Sam Filler (Trialist) , [... more]

Stirling Albion 3 Greenock Morton 2

At last. The end. Well nearly, one more game to go. Could the Beanos finish on a win ? If so it would be our first in 26 league games so maybe it wasn’t that likely. Stirling hadn’t scored against today’s opponents Morton in any of the three games between the sides to date. The goalless draw at Cappielow on opening day clearly promised better than was ultimately delivered. It’s been a struggle. Well, it’s been a a lot more than that. It’s been a disaster. Much to chew on over the close season for the Exec and coaching staff but for now all thoughts were on this afternoon’s match. Maybe Morton wouldn’t be up for it. Maybe, just maybe Stirling could send their fans into the summer with a much needed three pointer. Team lines showed just the one change from Central Park as Josh Flood was replaced by [... more]

Cowdenbeath 1 Stirling Albion 0

With Stirling already consigned to life back in Division Two the Albion today squared up to one of the sides largely responsible for putting us there, Cowdenbeath. Three games played between the sides this season and three priceless wins for the Fifers. The comeback of all comebacks at the DDS put the Beanos on the canvas and in truth they still look to be lying there staring at the stars. Jimmy Nichol has done a superb job at Central Park and the way he has managed to make a silk purse out of a sows ear is a galling sight for the Albion Exec who have seen an apparently similarly experienced manager flounder like a freshly caught mackerel. Ach well, too late to do much about it now. All that should have been on the players minds today was getting one over the side who inflicted upon us one of [... more]
