For the third and last time this season the Beanos made the short trip to Airdrie to take on United at the Excelsior stadium. Our previous visits have seen us lose heavily in the League Cup before restoring some pride in an end to end 1-1 league draw in September. Since those two matches the teams have of course also played at the DDS when Jimmy Boyle’s side won 4-1. This last encounter was also the last in charge for Jocky Scott and John Blackley who were sacked the following day. Airdrie tend not to do dull boring games and it was always likely that the fans in attendance this afternoon would see some goals. Team lines for the visitors showed four changes from the midweek comeback up at Station Park. Out went the two Shauns, Dillon and Fagan, along with Darren Smith and Alan Cook. Stirling Albion 0 East Fife 1
With back to back wins in the league for the first time since the first two games of the season the Beanos were today looking to make it a hatrick of three pointers. Standing in their way were John Robertson and his East Fife squad. The Fifers were many peoples fancy for a serious title tilt but to date it hasn’t really worked out that way. As things stand East Fife came into this afternoon’s encounter only a couple of points ahead of their hosts. A win for the Albion and Greig McDonald would therefore see his team leapfrog his old side in the table. Team lines for the Beanos showed just the one change from Cliftonhill. Out went the suspended John Crawley as the fit again Devon Jacobs returned to the starting line-up. On a breezy, wet day at the DDS the match kicked off with Stirling shooting towards [... more]
Albion Rovers 0 Stirling Albion 1
Due to Scottish Cup action the Beanos had to wait a fortnight for the chance to follow up on their impressive victory over local rivals Stenhousemuir. Since that victory, interim manager Greig McDonald has continued to impress in his media outings and another positive result from today’s trip to Cliftonhill would surely go a long way to removing that ‘interim’ tag. Stirling and Albion Rovers were most people’s fancies for the drop but both are striving to defy the pundits. Rovers lost last time out against near neighbours Airdrie United and Paul Martin’s men were clearly keen to get back on the winning trail this afternoon. When the sides met earlier in the season at the DDS the Albion blew a two goal lead but on the day the Coatbridge side were well worth a point in a game they probably deserved to get all three. Team lines for today’s [... more]
Stirling Albion 3 Stenhousemuir 1
Without a completed game since the 3rd of December, interim manager Greig McDonald and his charges would have been champing at the bit for the chance to show us the fruits of their labours. After the frustration of Typhoon Gayfield there were no major problems with the weather as local rivals Stennie made the short trip to the Doubletree Dunblane stadium. The Warriors occupied third place in the table pre-match, a full 16 points clear of their hosts. Last time the sides met the comprehensive and at times embarrassing 4-0 loss for Stirling almost certainly set the wheels in motion for Jocky Scott’s departure. Our other encounter at the DDS ended with four goals being shared and the Beanos nearly pinched all three points in the last few seconds. David Iron’s side has some experienced players in it and with the likes of Andy Rodgers and Stewart Kean up front [... more]
