At the start of the season Stirling surprised most, including themselves, when they won their opening two league fixtures. The second of those was that memorable five goal romp at The Rock which put the Beanos on top of the table. Since those heady days things have been a bit tougher. Indeed only one win in the next eight games has Jocky Scott’s men drifting down towards the wrong end of the table. Two poor showings in Fife may have seen confidence at the DDS eroded further and both fans and players would have been desperate for a positive showing this afternoon. Dumbarton have bounced back from that home humiliation and a win today would see them leap their hosts in the league ladder. Team lines for Stirling showed just the once change from Bayview as Gavin Macpherson failed to even make the 16 with Daly McSorley coming into the [... more]
East Fife 1 Stirling Albion 0
For the second time in seven days the Beanos and their band of travelling fans headed to deepest, darkest Fife. Following the extremely disappointing showing against Cowdenbeath it was Methil’s men’s turn to do battle for the honour of Fife against Stirling. John Robertson’s side made a slow start to the campaign as we all saw when they lost on opening day at the DDS. Tipped by many as a title chasing team their struggles continued for a few more weeks. However, the League Cup has seen the Fifer’s in sensational form witnessed by wins over Dunfermline and Aberdeen. With victories in their last couple of league matches, and a big cup tie to look forward to in midweek at Kilmarnock, confidence was bound to be high at Bayview. Stirling on the other hand have only one win in their last seven matches and Jocky Scott’s men would have been [... more]
Cowdenbeath 2 Stirling Albion 0
Unbeaten in two following decent results against Airdrie and Brechin the Beanos were forced into a temporary spell of inactivity to allow the Scotland international team to dazzle us all again in Euro 2012 qualifying action. Now that another less than glorious failure has been duly achieved by the Craig’s boys it was back to the only football that really matters as Stirling headed to Cowdenbeath on League 2 duty. The Fifers were of course a pain in Albion bums last term as four consecutive defeats, including “that” game, all but consigned us to the wooden spoon. The Beef also fell through the trap door after play-off defeat but having kept most of their squad together they look a good bet to go straight back up. A good mix of youngsters and experienced lads has the Central Park side as many people’s tips for the top and so far they [... more]
Stirling Albion 1 Brechin City 0
Before the start of the season most pundits predicted a Stirling match against Brechin City would have been relegation favourites against a team gunning for the title. As it happens Jim Weir’s side have struggled to live up to their billing and they actually came into today’s game beneath their hosts in the table. On paper the City side is a good mix of experienced pros and promising youngsters. However, for whatever reason it’s been tough going for the Glebe Park side and they would have been keen on a win this afternoon to boost their promotion chances. Jocky Scott’s Albion team made a winning start to the league season but since that romp at the Rock it’s been five without a three pointer. Therefore for both sides the win could kick start their season and with an international break next Saturday give the victors a couple of feel good [... more]
