Gone But Hopefully Not Forgotten!

With today’s match report written and online it’s time to say goodbye. After 15 years on the interweb RedWeb is pulling up the drawbridge and snuffing out the candles. It’s over. Finished. La Fin etc. For those paying attention you will of course remember that I said this once before. Indeed. That was many moons ago when Philliben and TGR had drained every ounce of enthusiasm from my body. The arrival of RedWebToo/Dinamo i.e. Deena, relit the fire. That fire still burns. It always will but not enough for me to continue. Looking back it’s been an interesting journey. From my first offering written in good old Microsoft Front Page and hosted on FreeUK (I believe you can actually still find the odd page somewhere), through the short lived Rivals franchise, stopping, starting, Deena, photos, professional websites, Stirling Observer, the campaign, the trust, the exec, the end. Been tiring at [... more]

Clyde 1 Stirling Albion 2

As Frankie (Sinatra not Goes to Hollywood) said “…and now the end is near“. Well closer than that actually. The end is here. For season 2012/13 and RedWeb this is the last stand. The venue for this momentous occasion was the world’s coldest football ground, Clyde FC’s Broadwood Stadium. The rest of Scotland could be melting in a record heatwave but this hilltop oasis would still have you searching for the hat and scarf. Once again it was absolutely baltic as Stirling looked to end Clyde’s good home form with a win to secure seventh place in the end of season standings. Defeat could still see the Beanos finish second from bottom. Not something anybody would want on their CV.  Team lines were interesting. The absence of Scott Davidson, Josh Flood and Gary Thom gave a heavy hint to their departures from the club. There were in fact three changes from last [... more]

Stirling Albion 1 Elgin City 1

As I wipe away the tears so it begins. My last home match report as “RedWeb”. Next week at Clyde will be our final stand. This is it for Forthbank. On we go. The visitors for this momentous occasion were Ross Jack’s Elgin City. The former Highland League side knew defeat against the Beanos would end their play-off hopes. In fact anything less than a win and results elsewhere would need to go their way for Elgin to take matters to the last day. In short a big game for them. End of season fare for us. That said the oft repeated managerial cry of “playing for contracts” was pulled out of the cliche almanac by Greig McDonald. In all my years I don’t think I can remember a player trying extra hard in these fag end encounters because contracts were on the line. Ho hum. So was the background [... more]

Annan Athletic 0 Stirling Albion 1

Following defeat to Peterhead the Beanos hopes of a promotion play-off place were all but over. It would take a freakish set of results to keep Stirling in the hunt and it wasn’t something most Albion fans were even entertaining as a possibility. In reality the season was over but the battle for pride to avoid finishing second bottom was still alive. Despite only seeing our play-off hopes dashed last weekend the Beanos could yet finish second from last in the SFL. One of the other teams battling to avoid a ninth placed finish were today’s opponents Annan Athletic. The Galabank outfit have won two in a row and the last time Stirling visited Annan we lost five goals and two players! Today’s Albion team showed five changes from the one which started against Peterhead last week. Jamie Bishop and David McClune were missing due to work commitments and suspension respectively. Elsewhere [... more]

Stirling Albion 0 Peterhead 1

Shorter than normal report tonight. Why? Because it was a crap game, I can’t really be arsed writing a report and lastly the Master’s in on TV so let’s get to it! With the Forthbank pitch resembling the colour of a beach the match started with the Beanos shooting towards the Springkerse end of the stadium. Peterhead came into the game on red hot form with a trail of wins and clean sheets in their wake. That was irrelevant. Stirling needed to win. However, it was the Blue Toon who enjoyed the better of the opening few minutes. A free kick was only half cleared to Graeme Sharp who pulled a weak shot past Sam Filler’s right hand post. After a sluggish period to start the match the Beanos finally seemed to find some fizz to their play. Kieran McAnespie drilled a free kick into the danger area, Jordan White failed [... more]
